I believe that Christians have a special calling to remember, to carry legacies onward and into the future. We are always remembering. We remember God delivering the Israelites from slavery, Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross, or our own Baptism. We also honor sacrifice. The sacrifice of Christ being foremost in our lives but there are countless examples in scripture of great faithful sacrifices. We believe in sacrifice on behalf of others as noble and pure. These truths should lead us affirming the goodness of a “Memorial Day”. A day dedicated to remembering the sacrifice of men and women to protect others. We should be the first to celebrate this type of noble calling and seek to remember those who laid down their lives defending others. I hope that this upcoming Memorial Day you are able to reflect on the nature of remembrance and sacrifice as we remember those that have gone before us.
