Discussion Questions
Evangelize
- In this passage Jesus works differently than his friends and disciples think he should work. How does Jesus’ life saving work on the cross challenge how we think and live?
- Jesus demonstrates his care for Lazarus and his family. Do you believe that Jesus cares about you why or why not?
Establish
- Jesus tells Martha that he is the “resurrection and the life”. This is what we confess in Baptism. Have you followed Jesus in obedience by being baptized?
- In this passage Jesus says he is doing everything to bring the Father glory? Does your life bring the Father glory? What are some ways you could change to bring God glory?
Equip
- Jesus is heart broken for his friend’s death and the grief it caused. He responds by transforming the grief to hope and life. What are areas in your life that might be causing Jesus to be grieved and how might he be trying to transform them?
- Jesus is not limited by human reasoning, timing, or power. Not even death can overcome him. What are areas of your life that you need to trust Jesus to work in and believe that he can change?
- Jesus cares about our future salvation but is also currently working in our lives, just like Lazarus. What areas of your life is the Lord currently working in?

- Jesus makes clear to his disciples that he is intentionally waiting to visit Lazarus, he also uses Lazarus’ death as a chance to encourage the faith of the disciples, Mary and Martha. How can you be like Jesus and use your everyday circumstances to help strengthen other people’s faith?
- Jesus works to bring hope to Lazarus’ family and ultimately. life to Lazarus. Who is the Lord wanting you to bring hope and life to this week?

- Pray that we would worship the life-giving Savior.
- Pray that we would trust Jesus’ plan.
- Pray that we would give all glory to God.
